Members and the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, held their Local Government Congress at Ehime Mbano Council Secretariat on Saturday September 4.
Addressing the august political gathering, Barr. Chidi Okechukwu, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ehime Mbano LGA observed that the main business of the day concerned electing the officers of the party at the LGA level. According to him, the party in Imo State had seamless ward congresses as there were no bickering and protestation over the conduct of the Ward Congresses held nationwide and across the 27 local governments in the State. He admonished leaders and stakeholders to unite and join hands to make the party formidable. He canvassed for a consensus candidature for various positions. The event was under close monitoring of the congress by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Moving a motion for the adoption of consensus arrangement, Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu, former member of Imo State House of Assembly representing Ehime State Constituency enjoined leaders, ward executives and stakeholders to lend support and the issue was put to a voice vote and it was unanimously supported as all the members resoundingly voted in the affirmative in support of the “Consensus arrangement.”
At the end of voting, Hon. Iwuoha Austin was elected the LGA Chairman of the party. Others elected into other principal positions included: Mrs. Mbaeyi, Women leader, Hon. Nath Igwe, Youth Leader among others.
The congress was very peaceful as there were no usual contestations from various political camps and interests.
The Leader spoke with Hon. Barr. Anthony Nduka, member representing Ehime State Constituency Imo State House of Assembly. According to him, the Congress was peaceful and transparent. He observed that with the mature manner members comported themselves, the party will grow from strength to strength. He expressed profound gratitude to all the partymen for turning out in their numbers and for aligning with the consensus arrangement. He extolled the government and the party hierarchy for rising up to the occasion.
Hon. Nduka posited that it will be the turn of State Congress after the successful Local Government Congress.
