Families and friends stormed the prestigious Landmark Event Centre, Nekede Pocket Layout New Owerri to witness the 36th Graduation/Matriculation ceremony of Geodora Skill Acquisition Centre, Owerri on Saturday, March 27, 2021.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman, Geodora Organization, Nze Dr. George Onwuanibe, disclosed that for the past 36 years they have been running the program, and maintaining consistency throughout the period, adding that it wouldn’t have been possible if not for the grace of God.
The Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Dr. Julie Onyeukwu in her address congratulated the graduands and hoped that as they receive their certificates, the skills and knowledge they have acquired, would begin to open for them doors for greater heights.
Hon. Onyeukwu urged the graduands to continue to strive hard because Geodora is not their destination but a catalyst to the realization of their dreams
The former commissioner for Women Affairs, Imo State, gave kudos to the proprietress of the centre, Lady Dorathy Onwuanibe, who for more than three decades devoted her life and financial resources to seeing that young women find their pride of place in their homes and by extension, the society and the world at large.
She said; “Lady Geodora, an octogenarian, defies any weather condition or circumstance to see that her students get the best training and practices comparable to that any where in the developed world. She is knowledgeable, dynamic, principled, energetic, dedicated, resilient, compassionate, a human resource manager, and permit me to add, another Mother Theresa of our time”.
Dr. Onyeukwu, who is a regular guest at Geodora graduations, noted that Lady Dorathy has raised the bar for qualitative vocational training and what the graduands owe her is to make her proud wherever they go.
Also speaking at the event, one of the children of Nze Dr. George and Lady Dora Onwuanibe, Dr. Emeka Onwuanibe, disclosed that one of his dreams is to take Geodora to another level, to create a “New Geodora” which will give the student opportunities to see the rest of the world.
He used the occasion to introduce a part of the “New Geodora” which he called “La Dora,” a perfume specially created for Lady Dora Onwuibe, which he said is currently available in America, Dubai and London.
In her vote of thanks, the Training Director, Lady Dora Onwuaribe thanked God for the good weather, disclosing that even though they hold graduations during the rainy season, rain has not disrupted the ceremony for the past 36 years, which indicates that God is really happy with them because they are doing a good thing.
The ceremony featured fashion parade, cultural dance, and exhibition of various products/outfits produced by the graduating students.
Among the dignitaries that attended the ceremony were, Very Rev. Msgr. Prof Richard Onwunaibe, Hon. Dr. Sir Johnbull Onyeukwu, Mrs. Mmegwa, parents and sponsors of the students.
