Academic activities will soon commence again at Kingsley Ozumba (K.O) Mbadiwe University (KOMU) Ideato South LGA after few months of closure by the Imo State Government, due to the contestation of ownership, between the former governor, Rochas Okorocha and Imo State Government.
Recall that the Imo State Government recently recovered the university and appointed Prof. Ikechukwu Simplicius Dozie as the substantive Vice Chancellor. Dozie was charged by Governor Hope Uzodimma to ensure immediate and full resumption of academic activities in the university.
Prof. Dozie on arrival at the University on Monday, July 19, 2021 paid a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of the host community, HRH Eze Gerald Ezeihekaibee, his cabinets and other traditional rulers that constitute the Umuma-Ebenmano Clan in Ideato South.
The traditional rulers prayed for Prof. Dozie and his team and assured him of their communities’ readiness to ensure that academic activities resumed again at the University.
In an address he presented, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dozie said that he was at the palace to seek peace of the land, blessing from the throne, familiarize with them as the traditional rulers and custodians of the culture and traditions of Umuma-Ebenmano clan as he begins the challenging task in the university.
He pointed out that universities are created to satisfy specific or general educational needs of a nation through teaching of students, conduct of research and dissemination of knowledge together with other community activities.
Prof. Dozie disclosed that the K.O Mbadiwe University was established through the Enactment of the University establishment Law No. 1 of 2021, Imo State by Governor Hope Uzodimma on February 18, 2021.
According to him, the Law repealed the Eastern Palm University (Establishment) Law No. 3 of 2019, which also established K.O Mbadiwe as a multi-campus university with the main campus at Ogboko in Ideato South LGA, thus becoming the 42nd state university and the 143rd university in the Nigerian university system and the 2nd Imo State owned university.
“I am deeply grateful to the Governor for finding me worthy to serve in this capacity as Vice Chancellor. I promise to lead KOMU to be a renowned institution for the pursuit of learning and scholarship as envisioned by the Governor, to the benefit of humanity and the glory of God. As members of our host communities, we appreciate your enormous sacrifices and contributions towards the establishment of this university. Similarly, we thank the former Governor of Imo Sate, His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha, OON and visitor to the Eastern Palm University for his vision and positive contributions”.
The Vice Chancellor said that the support of government and various critical stakeholders, especially the traditional rulers and the host communities are needed to make KOMU an institution of first choice destination for the teaming youths seeking world-class education. Prof. Dozie later assessed the facilities in the university. He was accompanied by the university’s Acting Librarian, Dr. Nkechi Nwanekum, the Acting Bursar, Mr. Wilson Agbarakwe, the Chairman of Committee of Deans, Rev Frs, Donatus Uzoma, Samuel Obasi, Jude Onugha and Ephraim Ugokwe.
