Minister charges Caretaker Committees to be focused

Minister of Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dare has charged the newly Inaugurated Caretaker Committees of the 30 Sports Federation to be focused on the best interest of the Nation.

Speaking during their inauguration in Abuja on Tuesday, the Minister said “The dissolution became necessary because of the expiration of your tenures.

It is also important because of the Tokyo Olympics which is less than 90 days away. This requires that all hands must be on deck because continuity is necessary to ensure preparations for the Games are not hampered in any way. The Caretaker Committees were thus specially selected to reflect our aspirations towards podium appearances at the Tokyo Olympics.”

While reminding them that their jobs terminate immediately after the Olympics to pave way for formal elections, the Minister warned that he will not hesitate to remove any Caretaker Committee that works at cross purposes with the Federations aspirations.

S'Eagles: Captain Musa returns to Kano Pillars

Nigeria captain Ahmed Musa has signed a short-term deal with his boyhood club Kano Pillars.

Musa’s deal with the former Nigeria champions will see him play until the end of the season, although he would be free to leave if an offer comes in from abroad.

The former Leicester City man has been without a club since parting ways, by mutual consent, with Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr in October.

He is keen to stay fit for Nigeria’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers, starting in June
“It is good for me to join Pillars because this is where I started from and it also helps to improve the profile of the league,” Musa told ESPN.

“Playing for them will help me keep myself in shape before June, so I can take part in the qualifiers.”
The 28-year-old has received offers from teams in Russia, England and Turkey, but is taking his time to come to a decision.

“In the end, I want something that will be good for my family, so I don’t want to rush,” he added.
Musa made his career breakthrough at the club, becoming Nigeria’s league top-scorer during the 2009/10 season. He scored 18 goals before moving to Europe.

He has made 96 appearances for Nigeria, the latest of which was last month’s victory over Lesotho during African Cup of Nations qualifying.
