It was an unprecedented gesture of humanitarian service in Amuzi Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, as Professor Celestine Onwuliri Foundation (PROFOUND) in collaboration with Eze Cletus and Ugoeze Dorathy Oparaoji Memorial Educational Foundation (ECUDOMEF) embarked on Home Visitation & Environmental Clean-Up for Bedridden Elderly Persons across the 10 villages of the community.
The exercise which lasted for two days came in response to the first World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly, established by Pope Francis and was observed last Sunday July 25 across Catholic world.
Prof. (Lady) Viola Onwuliri (LAUX) led the exercise and was accompanied by Senior Seminarians on apostolic work experience.
A total of 125 persons were visited with cooked food, cash gifts and other presentations, including rosary, analgesic tablets, balm, toiletries, firewood, etc.
Upon receiving their august visitors, the bedridden senior citizens did not hide their joy, thanking God that they could be remembered in such a manner.
The Foundation at the event, expressed gratitude to the pope for accommodating the elderly in the Church’s liturgical calendar, while thanking Rev. Fr. Paschal Njoku, Assistant Parish Priest St. Jude’s Church Amuzi, the seminarians and those who made donations for the program.
