South East governors rose from a meeting in Enugu, Tuesday October 5, and declared that they would do everything to end the “sit-at-home” order of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

The meeting, which was also attended by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, traditional rulers, National Assembly leaders, the clergy and other prominent leaders, mandated the governors and all the people of the South East to do everything within the law to ensure that there is no further sit-at-home in the South -East.

In the communiqué, which was read by the Chairman of South-East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, the leaders condemned the killings in the region and resolved to support the security agencies to stop the mayhem.

It read: “The meeting condemned the sit-at-home orders, which are mostly issued by our people in the Diaspora who do not feel the pains. In view of the information that even IPOB had cancelled the sit-at-home, the meeting resolved that governors and all people of the South -East do everything within the law to ensure that there is no further sit-at-home in the South- East and that people are allowed to freely move about in the zone;

“The meeting agreed that the South- East Ebube Agu security outfit be launched in all the South-East states and laws passed in various South-East states before the end of 2021.”

Umahi also said the meeting received the committee report on various matters affecting the South-East, especially on the issue of security and marginalization ofthe zone.

Reacting to the decision of the South East governors on its sit-at-home order, IPOB said they cannot stop the sit- at-home order in the region.

Speaking with Daily Post, IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful said the sit-at-home order was the only way people of the region can express their displeasure over the brutality by the Nigerian security agents in the South East.

He re-emphasized that the Mondays sit-at-home has been cancelled, adding that those enforcing it are not IPOB members.

According to Powerful, “South-East governors cannot stop the wishes of the people because they have failed the masses and sit-at-home is the only way our people show their displeasure and that they are tired of Nigeria and its security brutality in our territory. South-East governors have no stand to stop it.

“IPOB can only stop sit-at-home because they initiated it. We stopped Monday sit-at-home because we found out the implications on our people, but the Nigerian Government and their politicians hijacked it and killed people to implicate IPOB worldwide. Very soon, they will understand how we will handle it because we have discovered all their antics and gimmicks.”
