…School block named after Late Mrs. Dorathy Opara
St. Eunan’s Rising Sun Nursery & Primary, School of St Eunan’s Catholic Parish Owalla-Avuvu, was on the 12th September commissioned.
The six classroom-block for the primary school section named in memory of Late Madam Dorathy Opara was majorly financed by Chief Dr. Paschal Ike, Chief Dr. Magret Ike and Engr. Ben Kelvin. The school boasts of conducive and spacious environment for learning and sporting activities.
Speaking during the commissioning, the traditional ruler of the community, HRH Eze Donatus Chukwuemeka Eze, said the community is pleased with the actualization of the project. He described the school, “as the foundation of future generation upliftment.”
Dr Anselm Opara, in his remarks at the occasion, said the school, though a mission school, some well-to-do sons and daughters of the community are in partnership with the school management to ameliorate the cost of the school fees so that it can be affordable to the indigent ones.
The former Transition Committee Chairman of Ikeduru LGA charged the school management, to be committed and ensure that the school grows from strength to strength in academics, adding that the indigenes of the community would continue to support them.
Also speaking, Engr. Ben Kelvin expressed optimism that, “This foundation will give us good future leaders who will carry the baton ahead”
He stated that from time to time he and other donors would be visiting the school to intervene in areas the school needs assistance, “to make sure they will rise to the highest standard in education”.
Earlier in his homily during the Eucharistic celebration that preceded the commissioning, the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Linus Ibeawuchi told the congregation that problems of life are inevitable. It is a cross placed upon us by God since birth. He maintained that God does not give us any cross beyond our strength.
“Whatever problems you are passing through, bear it silently in faith, endurance and supplications to God. Let it be between you and your God who alone makes his grace abundant for you to press on.”
In an interview with our correspondent, the Head Teacher of the school, Mrs Julia Uchegbu said the school since its inception in 2015 has continued to excel in all ramifications, adding that the school is a beneficiary of Leo Stan Eke’s foundation.
“Here at St Eunan’s Nursery & Primary School, being a mission school, our priority is the academic, spiritual, moral and physical formation of every of our pupil. Primary 6 pupils who excel here are given scholarship to complete their secondary school education by some philanthropists from the community.
“The school boasts of experienced and self motivated teachers who are dedicated to service. Our fees are very moderate and the most affordable in the community with exception of public schools”, she pointed out.
Dignitaries who witnessed the commissioning include, HRH Eze Donatus Chukwuemeka Eze, Dr Anselm Opara, Engr. Ben Kelvin, the parish CWO President, Mrs. Christy Unegbu, the PPC Chairman, Mr. Gervase Anozie and the parish CMO President Sixtus Iheanacho.
About 36 candidates received First Holy Communion during the Mass.
