THIS TOO, SHALL PASS AWAY

HE IS WAITING

The bible in 2Timothy 3:1, called this time “a perilous time”; a time hard to deal with; a time when peoples’ love had waxed cold. I doubt if there is anything evil that is not on rampage now. We hear stories of sacrileges and abominations happening here and there. Vices are now the order of the day.

Evil is now perpetrated with reckless abandon even from the most unsuspected fellows. We have lost our sense of humanity. The chastity and sacredness of life has been desecrated; our regards for one another has fizzled away. The world around us is everything but peaceful and serene. Insecurity stares us in the eyes. Killings, kidnappings, maiming, wanton and mindless destruction of life and properties is what we read, hear and see all around us on daily basis. No one is safe anywhere, anymore.

If you stay home, you die of hunger and starvation. If you go out, you fall by a stray bullet. There is neither hedge nor fortress anywhere. Young men like lambs are led to their slaughter. Their fathers and mothers are not spared. The young women are raped and defiled while their fathers, brothers and husbands helplessly watch in agony. On both sides of the divide, anything goes. Anarchy and chaos are everywhere. We can hardly point to the oppressor or the victim. Everyone wants to survive by all means possible whether fair or foul.

In this quest for survival, one thing we should not do is to deviate from the side of righteousness. Joshua told the children of Israel…”though the lion may be on the way to devour us, God will surely give us victory. Only move on to the righteous side.” While doing this, we should be strong.

“We should awaken our mental toughness. Knowing that, it is only the tough that get going in tough times. My generation only heard stories of the Biafran war or the Nigerian civil war as one may chose call it. We heard and read that the time of the war was the worst three years of existence in the Eastern part of Nigeria, but it eventually stopped when it did. In the same vein, this too, shall pass away.

All we need to pull through is trust in God. This diffuses all manner of fear and anxiety, and helps us keep our faith and focus. The bible says in Revelation 1:17b that we should not be afraid for Christ is the first and last. If Christ says do not be afraid, then that settles it. What we cannot afford to do at this time is; adding anxiety and fear to this chaotic state we find ourselves. “O bu nwa mgbe nta, O naghi adigide.” May the peace of the lord that surpasses all human understanding abide with us, in this perilous time, Amen.

Shalom.

HE IS WAITING

HE IS WAITING

As a young girl, I witnessed an interesting occasion where mothers around my home town came out one day to the market square with one kitchen utensil each to pray to God for safety and exonerate themselves from the atrocities of the young men at that time. That was the time when the vogue was to use mothers for rituals. Mothers came out enmass, in one accord and placed curses on any child male or female who would attempt to use their mum for rituals to get wealthy. That was because our mothers realized that they were in danger and needed to do something urgently or else, they would all perish.

Growing up in that community, I saw God obviously answer that prayer because the women made their request in unity of purpose. That God that answered our mothers is still God today. The God of the mountain is still God in the valley; the God of the day is still God in the night. The insecurity in our land calls for a state of emergency. It concerns us directly and we cannot afford to keep quiet. God is waiting for us to call on Him and in unity and sincerity of purpose ask for His intervention

Jeremiah 32:2 says ‘behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is there anything too difficult for me?’ This bible verse is perfect in reminding us that there is nothing too big, too strong or too powerful for God through Christ. The Lord can conquer any obstacle for us. When we choose to lean on our faith in Him, trust in Him and allow Him reign in our lives, we see our problems fade into the thin air.

With all that is happening to us, our husbands and children, there’s no better time to kneel and grow taller; to rise to the challenges of our time in the secret place of the Most High. In psalm 91:1, the psalmist reminds us that ‘he that dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty’. This is that time when women should gather as wives, mothers and sisters, with one voice and in one accord to ask God to plead our cause. Do not feel you are inconveniencing God or putting too much burden on Him. He can handle anything and sincerely, He wants to.

Shalom!

BE PATIENT

Published

HE IS WAITING

Patience is a virtue and good personality trait that is overlooked by many. It is an invaluable skill. Patience combined with courage will help you do what’s right in tough situations. “Patience is not just the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting. One minute of patience equals ten years of peace. With love and patience, nothing is impossible. Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.”

In life, we all have our zeal and plans. But when there’s delay, we become impatient and hysteric. Worry, hysteria, impatience do not solve any problem. Instead, they are the major reasons things have fallen apart around us. Most of us take permanent decisions for temporary situations thereby subjecting ourselves to abuse and danger. Our major focus should not be how fast we achieve goals but how well. Most times, as humans, we strive to do things on our own. If God is not involved, in vain do we struggle.

Patience is linked with self control. It guides one to make good choices, rather than taking impulsive decisions. Patience forces one to show empathy and kindness towards others. A patient person is able to slow down and assess things before acting. Patience puts us in direct control of ourselves. And there is no more powerful an aid to success then self-possession. When we are patient, we give ourselves time to choose how to respond to issues, rather than get hijacked by our emotions. It allows us to stay gathered no matter what is happening.

Why are we in so much hurry to excel? Why do we compare our children’s financial achievement with those of their age mates? Why do we blackmail them into looking for money at all cost even if it would take people’s lives? They may be age mates but they sure do not have the same destiny. The problem of the society can actually be solved if women become a little bit more patient.

KNEEL AND WIN

HE IS WAITING

The spade of incessant mindless killings in our land these days is terrifying. When we spoke about keeping up with the New Normal, no one envisaged that shedding of innocent blood and sounds of war will force itself to be part of our New Normal. There’s hardly any day that passes without tales of terror, killing and maiming of people. No corner of this country is safe from this menace. It happens anytime, anywhere and anyhow. People no longer sleep with both eyes closed. Hmmmm, the tragedy of our time.

Those paid to protect us are overwhelmed. The sight of security agents no longer gives confidence. Of a truth, the sight of security operatives strikes fear  in the hearts of the masses because, their ranks have been infiltrated such that terrorists could actually disguise as security operatives and masquerade in their appearance. What is actually happening? How come we no longer see life as sacred. Why is killing becoming a norm in our society?

I’m not against self-defense, self-emancipation, or fighting for one’s right, but I’m against bloodletting and blood shedding. It’s high time women rose up for we are at the receiving end of all killings. Women are the ones who are kidnapped, raped and abandoned. We are the ones whose sons are brutally killed; whose husbands are gruesomely slaughtered in cold blood. We are the ones whose siblings are butchered, shot and restricted on daily basis. On either side of this craze going on, we have fallen victims of our own negligence.

We have abused our God-given feminine prowess so much that we no longer have any influence on our men. We have manipulated our men so violently that we could no longer restrain them from to their early graves. God has given us Powers to positively influence and not to manipulate our men as we do. Please, let’s do some deep thinking to know the best way possible to stop our men from using violence to address issues in life.

Let us all go to this war on our knees like the Esther of old. Let every woman go to her king prayerfully and tell Him why He must not endorse this gallows upon which our husbands, brothers and sons would be hung. Let’s bear in mind that our land shall be desecrated and our daughter violated if  we throw caution to the winds. As we do our best possible to be security alert, let us be conscious of the fact that horses are prepared for war but safety is of the Lord.

Shalom!
