Tragedy: Couple, nine wedding guests, die in auto crash

It was a tragic weekend in Edo and Delta States as 11 people, including the bride and groom died in two separate motor accidents on Saturday August 21 and Sunday, August 22.

Members. of St Mathias Parish Ologbo, Archdiocese of Benin City were involved in a tragic accident in Iruekpen on their way from the traditional wedding of two Choristers on Sunday.

The bride and the groom died on the spot while some others are at different stages of medical conditions.

The dead include, David Ewere Ajayi  (unit P.R.O), Sister Marvelous Okosun (bride), Brother Theophilus Eze (groom) and Mr. Goodluck Osayande (Vice Chairman Parish Pastoral Council).

Those in critical condition are Clement Odey ( Asst Choirmaster), Israel (youth leader) and Patricia Eze (Sister to the late groom).

In a related development, seven female wedding guests also died in an auto crash in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State Saturday.

It was gathered that the accident which involved a Toyota Sienna with about nine women on board occurred along Orogun Road around 5pm, August 21.

The women said to be from Agorodei Peile Quarters in Bomadi community of Delta State, were returning from a marriage ceremony of their sister at Agbor when the accident occurred.

According to reports, their vehicle veered off the road into a bush, and somersaulted several times. About seven persons died on the spot, including the driver.  Two persons, however, survived.

The two survivors were rushed to a hospital in Ughelli community.
