There was a pandemonium Monday, July 26, 2021 at Orie Nnempi, in Oru-East LGA of Imo State, following the killing of one Mrs. Ifeyinwa Enyikwasara at the market square. An eyewitness, who witnessed the incident, told The Leader that on that fateful day, which happened to be a market day, in the morning, when traders were already at the market buying and selling their goods, they heard gunshots from a distance and people started running without knowing where the sound of the gun was coming from. They later came back to their shops and continued with their business.
Later, some unidentified armed men, who masked their faces and dressed in black attire, arrived at the market with two different buses without any registration numbers, immediately started chasing traders away. In the process, a woman, whose money fell off ran back to pick it and was shot on the head and she died instantly.
The eyewitness further disclosed that all the traders as well as others within that vicinity abandoned their goods and scampered for safety, while the lifeless body of Mrs. Enyikwasara was still lying on the ground. It was gathered that a telephone seller, near the market was also attacked by the yet-to-be identified gunmen, who tried to rob the shop owner but did not gain access due to the strong burglary proof used to protect the entrance to the shop.
Our source disclosed that people in the area are still asking who the gunmen were where they came from and their purpose of chasing traders out of the market as well as shooting sporadically in the air.
The Leader gathered that the slain woman left behind three children and her husband. Her body had since been removed and deposited at a morgue. Efforts to get the police to speak on the incident proved abortive. e
